Becker & Poliakoff Helping Hands, a 501(c)(3) non-profit company administered by the Law Firm of Becker & Poliakoff, P.A., is a public charity helping hospitalized children, their families and others year round and statewide, with an emphasis on bringing joy to children in need. The Helping Hands Toy Drive distributes high-end toys and gifts to children and teenagers undergoing treatment for cancers and terminal illnesses at pediatric hospitals, as well as foster care, homeless and other needy children throughout Florida.
Becker & Poliakoff Helping Hands strives to bring joy to disadvantaged children with lifelong and life-threatening illnesses. We do this by organizing events, activities, parties, making hospital visits from favorite cartoon and mascot characters, and providing wish list gifts for the children.
In recent years, Becker & Poliakoff Helping Hands made multiple visits to hospitals in Miami, Ft Lauderdale, Tampa, Orlando and Gainesville. Since our inaugural year, thousands of Florida’s children have been reached by Helping Hands events, activities, and gifts.
Many of the children we visit are just like your own, friend’s or relative’s children, except for one thing—these children suffer from life-altering, life-threatening, and too often life ending illnesses. They are your children except for their cancers, their transplants, their immune disorders, their car accidents, burns, and broken bodies. They are your children except they cannot go home, they cannot go to school, let alone enjoy activities with friends.
As one of the founders of Becker and Poliakoff Helping Hands, I, Lee Weintraub, understand all too well the excruciating physical and emotional pain these children and their families endure. My daughter is a eighteen-year old cancer survivor. When she was only eight months old she was diagnosed with a rare cancer known as Retinoblastoma. She went through six months of chemotherapy, and multiple surgeries. She has gone through hospital visits for MRI’s and shots for almost her entire life. The fear of hospital visits, masked doctors, and shots, still haunts her.
Please find it in your heart to help these children enjoy the holiday season, despite their circumstances, and help their families who may not be able to afford gifts because of their mounting medical bills and time spent away from work. While the holidays are a special time of year to give thanks and help, we hope you will continue to donate year round.
